Go Shockers!

Our hometown team the Wichita State Shockers made it too the Final Four in the NCAA tourney this year! We have been cheering and watching all along but decided to get together with some friends to watch them take on #1 ranked Louisville last weekend. It was a gorgeous day so we decided to watch outside!
This made it so much easier to watch the game because the kiddos love to be outside and were able to keep themselves entertained! :)
There is something so fun about watching TV and eating outside!

The Shox had a heck of a game but ended up losing by 4 points. It was a heart-breaker, but what an amazing season and I'm sure it will be followed up by many more!
We decided to have a fire and roast marshmallows and hang out into the evening. Good times!

Alumni Basketball Game - aka - I'm getting old!

For the Newman Alumni basketball game this year, my former roomie/teammate Sarah and I decided to bust out our old school shirts that we had made when we were juniors at Newman. You like? :)
Elena got to run around and play on the court before we got started. She was having a blast!
Whew! Time for a water break :)
Then we got started. Let me tell you, I think the court got longer since I played there! HA! One time down and back and I was already breathing hard! There was one point in the game where I heard Elena yell, "Make a basket Mommy!!" I thought, oh man - I am embarrassing my 4 year old! :)  But it was really fun to play with my old teammates again! Hopefully next year there is an ever bigger turnout! (and it might be this old lady's last year playing!)
It was so funny to see Sarah and I's hubbys taking care of the babies while we played. Two good looking Mr. Mom's right there!
"Exhausted" just barley begins to describe how tired I was! (I also forgot just how red my face gets when I really work out hard - guess I need to pick it up at the gym!)
Elena thought me playing basketball was great and if it gives her any sort of encouragement to play sports later in life then I say - mission accomplished! :)

Alumni Basketball.

Last night was our Alumni basketball game - a.k.a. - coming to the realization that I'm getting old!!! :) Elena was so excited to go to a basketball game, but I don't think she really understood that Mommy would be playing this time! She got to shoot around with us while we warmed up.
Talk about an excited little girl!
Watching my skillz! Lol!
She wanted to shoot it in the hoop so bad so I gave her a little boost~

She was having so much fun!

Then it was time for Mommy to play~
I opted to go for the knee brace and I am glad I did, it never hurts to be careful!!

We had a blast - but man was I exhausted!! I am so sore today, I used some muscles that I obviously hadn't used in a LONG time! Here is a group shot of the Alumni, the intramural team we played against, current coaches and a couple current players. One player was from North Carolina and another has previously played at Rutgers! Amazing the difference that going NCAA Division II makes - a lot more scholarship money that can bring in players from all over!
After the game I took Elena in to see the locker room. She was in awe. I had so many memories come back to me while I was in there too!
She ran around the room and made sure every locker was closed - too funny!!
Maybe someday she will be suiting up in this locker room to play for the Jets!! Can't wait until next year's game!

Flashback Friday - Basketball.

Tonight is our Newman Women's Basketball Alumni Game. I am slightly nervous considering I haven't really touched a basketball since I got pregnant with Elena - that would be 3 years ago!! I thought I would dig up some old basketball pics to reminisce before getting together with everyone tonight~

I had to dig around in the garage to find my old knee brace! (I'm #15 and Chelsea also had a matching one back in the day!) I doubt that I will be playing hard enough that I need it but I figure I would take it just in case!

Rowe and I~

Senior night~

Kristy, Rowe and I - we played all four years together at Newman~
I have some great memories from playing basketball Newman, especially with all my fellow seniors - class of '04!!
I am so looking forward to seeing everyone tonight! I will let you know how sore I am the next day - lol!! Wish me luck!

Basketball.

This weekend my good friend Chelsea was in town. Her, Sarah and I decided to go watch a little high school basketball. Our Newman basketball coach now coaches his daughter's high school team. So we decided to go out and support them both! Elena thought being in the gym was pretty cool.

Especially when she got popcorn!

Elena kept saying - I just want to go down there and play mama! Maybe someday she will be out on that court and I will be cheering her on!! :)
Coach's team played great, especially his daughter Payton! They are undefeated and heading towards their 2nd state championship hopefully!! I should have got a group picture of all of us but Elena was getting a little restless after the game and I ended up chasing her all around and forgot. It was so great to see them again and to catch up with them and Chelsea too!
