St. Patty's Day! {2015}

For St. Patty's Day this year the kids and I checked off some spring break bucket list items and then headed to Applebee's for dinner. :)

 Green beverages for everyone! ;)

I love these two so much!
They keep life interesting that's for sure!

When we got home I had the kids help me whip up some rainbow cupcakes! It had been a long time since I had made them!
 They turned out great!

 Happy little leprechauns!
Did you remember that Cooper's Birthday is also on St. Patricks day? He was a bit surprised when we offered him up a cupcake!
and even more surprised when we sang to him! :) This guy is 10 years old!!! What? I wouldn't believe it if he didn't have so much gray hair on his face!
Happy St. Patty's Day 2015!!

St. Paddy's Day {2013}

On St. Paddy's Day this year we decided to head to Old Chicago for some yummy food...
...and of course a couple green beers! ;)

Since we drug the kids along for our fun, we decided to let them have a little fun too! We headed to the play area at the mall, which just happens to be next door. This was D's first time there and he definitely enjoyed it!
He loved every minute of it. (and so did Elena of course!)

I think that he really thought he was making the rides go! So serious.

And of course Daddy can't say no to the candy store! Can you say wrapped around her finger? :)
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Paddy's Day.

Things were pretty laid back this St. Patrick's Day, it's just not as exciting when you can't drink green beer! ;) But I made up for it by making green cinnamon rolls and green milk for breakfast!
Elena thought it was the coolest thing ever!

Green icing/milk mustache. :)
It was just a relaxing Saturday for us with a few errands. I had big plans to do rainbow cupcakes and shamrock activites but they just didn't happen this year. Oh well, I've got them all pinned on Pinterest so I can just look them back up next year!! ;) We decided to have dinner at Old Chicago while we were out and about. Elena was excited to show off her shamrock shirt and even got a fun necklace while we were there!
Apparently the day wasn't quite so laid back for Elena...she fell asleep on the way home (about 7:00pm) and stayed asleep until 10 the next morning! 15 hours of sleep!!! Can't remeber the last time she has slept that long!
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

My little good luck charm~

This evening we decided to meet up with Aunt Marie at Old Chicago to grab some dinner, hang out and celebrate.

Aunt Marie is so fun! :)

Elena was in such a happy giggly mood! Probably because everyone that walked by stopped to tell her how cute she was and then kept giving her bead necklaces! She was in necklace heaven! When we went to the bathroom, there was a lady in there hiccup-ing (too many green beers?) and Elena looked at me and whispered - Mommy, she has the hiccups! Then after Elena came out of the stall she ran up to her and yelled - "You have the hiccups!" Pretty funny! The lady was very nice and thought she was totally adorable and even gave her a light up necklace - this made Elena's night! :)

Cheers!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Rainbow Cupcakes!!

Today my Mom came over and helped us make rainbow cupcakes! I told Elena a few days ago that we were going to make them soon and she has been asking to make them every day since! She loves rainbows and colors so this was a great little project for her! All you need is white cake mix, gel food coloring, and icing!

After the cake was all mixed up, we divided out the batter into 6 bowls and added the food coloring~

Then we layered them into the pans color by color~this part was a little stressful! It is so hard to get the right amount and then spread it out. I found some tips on this (after they were already made of course!) that said to dip your finger into water and spread the color out b/c the batter is very thick. I will definitely have to try that next time!

Elena wouldn't keep her fingers out of the batter - but I wouldn't expect anything less of her!;)
Then they went in the oven. How do you kill a little time on a gorgeous day like this? Playing in the backyard with Grandma of course!!
I went in to check on the timer and lets just say we layered up the cupcakes a little thick! What was supposed to be enough batter for 24 cupcakes ended up being only 12! Whoopsie! I don't think I have ever seen cupcakes that big before!
So what do you think?? I think they are pretty stinking adorable! And so perfect for St. Patty's day! (I think my icing skills need a little help though!)
Elena was so into the cupcake and all the colors she wouldn't even look up at me to take a picture! I guess that means she approved!
This was such a fun idea and we had a blast making them! It may have to become a little St. Patty's Day tradition in this house!
